Conservation of a Greek cantharos

Object Name: Drinking cup (cantharos)

Dimensions: Height: 123 mm Width: 188 mm

 Description:  Ceramic black slip ware drinking cup broken into five pieces. Both handles broken and previously repaired. One of the handles is approximately 90% replicated from plaster.

 Treatment:  The cup was surface cleaned using smoke sponge (vulcanized rubber), the break edges were cleaned with acetone cotton wool swabs. The handles were adhered with 40% Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate co-polymer) adhesive any excess adhesive was removed with acetone cotton wool swabs.
